Snowdrops at Sizergh

Had a family visit to Sizergh this afternoon, too late in the day to look for Hawfinch, but my little girl enjoyed seeing the bird feeding station (usual Finches, Tits & a Nuthatch calling somewhere nearby) & a walk round the gardens. Snowdrops were in good fettle & there are a few Crocus starting to come through.

Snowy weather

A layer of snow and dense fog made for strange photography conditions, but here's a few photos from around and about.

Freds slide do

Last night (Sat 28th Jan) was the annual extravaganza that is Freds slide do, held at the Duke of Cumberland, one of the classic events of the Cumbrian birding calendar.
It was the usual enjoyable mix of birding & wildlife photos, tales, banter & the occasional pig sty thrown in for good measure !
I don't think I'll try to recreate the legendary banter here, but for those that were unable to attend or want to see the photos again at their leisure, I've uploaded my slideshow here or click on the photos below.

Woodland birds

A couple of photos from last weekend of Chaffinch & Coal Tit. Nothing rare, and the background is admitedly a little messy, but I thought the quality of the early morning light was very nice.
